Lake Cote is a beautiful, untouched lake about 10 minutes drive into the mountains. Its forest are sacred to the local Maleku people, as it was a space for shamanic initiations. It is also the site of The Best UFO Picture Ever Taken, accidentally by a government survey plane in the 70’s. It wasn’t until much later when going through the photo negatives that the UFO was discovered. There is good hiking trails, water access, and amazing unspoiled views to enjoy. Excursion can also include a couple hours in the cute nearby town of Tilaran.
